Adult Education - GED: Home

This subject guide is for adults who plan to take the GED (General Educational Development) test.

GED, Your Path to Academic Success

GED stands for General Educational Development. It's a way to earn your high school diploma and is your path to college. The GED Test has been updated to make sure it measures what graduating high school seniors know and what colleges and employers will expect of you. There are four tests:

  • Science: 90 minutes
  • Social Studies: 75 minutes
  • Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA): 155 minutes, including an 10 minute break*
  • Mathematical Reasoning: 120 minutes

GED.COM provides study resources and a link to register to take the test.

You can also check the GED.COM site for pricing.

No courses are required to sign up and take the test. However, if you would like to take courses to prepare, these are offered through Parkland's Adult Education Department.

GED Materials

These are some materials in the Library that can help you prepare for your GED exam.  Please ask a librarian at the Information Research Desk if you need help finding them or other materials.
