Parkland Library's response to COVID-19.

Library Services Remain Open Online

Library online services remain open!

  • Librarians are answering questions via via chat and email during hours of operation.
  • ​We are ready to help you with your courses in the all-online format.
  • The library is open 24/7 with thousands of ebooks, hundreds of thousands of articles, and online video
  • The llibrary's social media accounts will be sharing updates and resources. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.


The situation is constantly evolving, we will provide updates as soon as possible.

Spring Break is extended until March 29.

Opening Times and Library Access

  • ONLINE Librarian assistance will be available from 7:30 am - 8 pm Mon - Fri, and 10 am - 2 pm Sat.
  • All online services are accessible through the library.parkland.edu webpage
    • Chat, email, and text are the fastest ways to get assistance
  • The library’s online articles/books/videos are available 24/7 using your Parkland login credentials

Reserves Material

We will be allowed onto campus to scan printed material on reserve EACH THURSDAY.

Please email the details of what you need to library@parkland.edu by Wednesday at 5 pm.

  • Course name and number (e.g. English 101)
  • Title of book
  • Chapter or page numbers

Due Dates/Overdue/Returning Items

  • All library materials currently checked out have had their due dates are automatically extended until May 15th  
  • Further extensions are possible if we have an extended closure.
  • Check your library account to see items you have checked out and their due dates.
     
  • Do not return any borrowed items
    • Due dates are automatically extended until May 15th
    • No overdue fines will be charged during the semester
  • ONLY IN CASE OF IMMEDIATE NEED (i.e., international students going home)
    • Items may be placed into the library book drop in X wing, College center
    • Items may be mailed to the library, room number R201.

Accessing Resources after March 30th

  • Contact the library using chat or email, text to 217-615-0079 or chat (the "Ask Us" button) for assistance in finding electronic resources
  • Reserve materials may be available for scanning: 48 hours’ notice required.
    • Faculty and students are both able to request scanned materials.
    • Email library@parkland.edu for assistance.
  • Where scans are impractical, books may be mailed to the borrower (does not apply to items on reserve)
  • Faculty may request the library purchase electronic resources

Interlibrary Loans

  • The state has suspended ILL requests for books and DVDs until further notice
    • No new requests will be filled for items not held in our collection
      • Purchase of electronic materials for instructional needs will be considered on a case by case basis.
      • Faculty should email library@parkland.edu with the item title, class, and number of enrolled students
    • Do not return items already borrowed; due dates are automatically being extended
  • Article requests can be sent to library@parkland.edu or using the form located at http://parkland.libsurveys.com/InterlibraryLoanForm
