Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act of 2002, aka the TEACH Act, was signed into law in 2002 to help address the growing concerns regarding the use of copyrighted materials in distance education courses.
This act expanded U.S. Government Copyright Law (Title 17) in Section 110(2).
Section 110(1) allows educators to use copyrighted materials in face-to-face instruction, while 110(2) imposes limits on this use during digital instruction. This assists in preventing unauthorized distribution of the materials.
While the TEACH Act makes allowances for the use of some copyrighted materials, instructors must adhere to strict guidelines.
