Privileges

The Community Borrower Card Privileges for Community College District 505 Residents:

  • Community Borrower Card holders can borrow materials from the general circulating collection. 
  • A maximum of ten (10) items can be checked out at once per card. Books may be recalled before the due date if needed by a student or faculty member. Certain items may not be renewed. 
  • Privileges exclude borrowing through the I-Share consortium, Reserve and interlibrary loan services, or off-campus access to research databases.

Policy

Cardholder Policy:

Citizens of District 505 who are not current Parkland College students, faculty, or staff and who are at least 18 years old are eligible for a Community Borrower Card. 

  • Cards are valid for one year from the date of issue and can be renewed annually if the patron is in good standing. 
  • The initial card is free. The first replacement due to loss or theft is also free. Subsequent replacements incur a $5.00 fee. Lost cards should be promptly reported to the Department of Public Safety (217-351-2369) to avoid liability. 
  • Cardholders are fully responsible for all checked-out materials, including replacement costs and processing fees. 
  • Community borrowers can borrow a maximum of ten (10) items at a time from the general collections: 
    • Books (limit 10) - due in 4 weeks 
    • Feature films (limit 10) - due in 2 weeks 
  • Failure to settle library fines, fees, or charges will result in the loss of library privileges. Past due accounts may be referred to a collection agency, and the account holder is liable for associated costs and legal fees. 
  • Cardholders must inform the Library in person of any changes in address, telephone, or email. 

How to Obtain a Card

How to Obtain a Card: 

  1. Complete an application form and present proof of residency, age, and a photo ID at the Learning Commons Main Desk. 
  2. Your Community Borrower Card will be processed in the Library. A current mailing address is required. 
  3. Once processed, the card will be mailed to the provided address within 7 business days. 

Acceptable forms of identification include: 

  • Proof of Identity:  
    • Any photo ID displaying your name (e.g., state identification card, school ID, employment ID, passport). 
  • Any of the Proof of Residency in Parkland College District 505:  
    • Current Illinois driver's license or state ID with current address 
    • Car registration  
    • Bill for car insurance  
    • Renter's or homeowner's insurance bill, lease  
    • Copy of income tax return (IL or US), tax bill  
    • Voting receipt, or other dated and addressed notices from the Board of Elections
