CTC - Digital Literacy: Parkland Connect

A collection of resources to help people become more comfortable wth computers and improve their computer skills. There are also links to resources for Parkland students to learn about the software, programs, and platforms students need to be successful.

Parkland Connect

Connect is the name of Parkland’s web portal for students, and it is at https://connect.parkland.edu

Web portal is just a fancy name for a central location that holds links and general Parkland information. For example, you can find links to your email, Cobra, grades, and other information on Parkland Connect.

Here is a quick link on how to access Parkland Connect.

Parkland Connect

Becoming familiar with various Parkland systems will make your life as a student much more pleasant!

The first thing to know is that you will use the same login information for all Parkland systems. Sometimes you might have to enter that information multiple times if you are accessing more than one of these systems, but it will always be the same username and password.

The second thing to know is that Parkland uses two-factor authentication. What this means is that, in addition to your username and password, there will be a second way to confirm who you are. For most people, this means installing the Okta application on your smartphone. If you don’t have a smartphone, there are other options available, found at this link: https://kb.parkland.edu/104431

Our Parkland login information is managed by something called ParklandOne. To create or change your password, (or if you forget your complicated password) go to ParklandOne at https://one.parkland.edu.

If you don’t know what your Parkland username is, you’ll find a link there that will let you look it up.

Cobra is the name of Parkland’s Learning Management System (LMS).

Every class you enroll in will have a space in Cobra, and a class might use many of the available features, while other classes might use Cobra only to provide a course syllabus.

Regardless, you should always look at your classes in Cobra as soon as a semester begins.

Cobra Learning Login

Parkland has provided a lot of information and instructions for using the various tools in Cobra. So instead of creating new (and likely less complete) instructions here, we are directing you to those existing resources in Cobra Learning, which are posted under the name, "Cobra Connection."

To find "Cobra Connection", first log into Cobra. Then, without clicking into any classes, click on the "Discover" link in the navigation bar. Then look for Cobra Connection, and click on the "Enroll in Course" button. Once enrolled, you will find the course under the "Ongoing" link in Cobra.

Once in Cobra Connection, click on Content and use the panel on the left to browse topics. If you're brand new to Cobra, I recommend starting at the top and working your way down. If you just need a quick lesson on a specific topic (for example, submitting an assignment to a dropbox), click directly on that link.
