CTC - Digital Literacy: Getting Started

A collection of resources to help people become more comfortable wth computers and improve their computer skills. There are also links to resources for Parkland students to learn about the software, programs, and platforms students need to be successful.

How to Begin this Digital Literacy Course

We encourage you to start with a brief self-assessment of your computer skills. Click on the "Where Are You?" Checklist tab.

Next, work through each of the tabs in order, or you can just pick any tab and start there.

This course will draw from multiple sources, and you will be asked to perform a variety of tasks. As with any course, it is important to keep track of where you are at.

Be sure to read any instructions posted. Some instructions and explanations will be presented as links. Links appear in blue. Clicking on links will open up documents or videos that are related to the topic covered in that section.

Cobra Learning

For Parkland Students

If you are a Parkland student, you can complete this course in Cobra.

  1. Log into Cobra Learning.
  2. Click on the Discover tab on the navigation bar at the top.
  3. Click on the CTC Digital Literacy course.
  4. Click on the Enroll in Course button. 

Please Note: Clicking the enroll button on the resource will add that "course" to your My Courses widget with your other courses for quick and easy access.

NorthStar

Basic Resource

If you are just starting out and need some help learning the basics of working with computers, below is a resource to get you started.

Northstar is a collection of online, self-guided modules that assess an individual's ability to perform basic tasks on computers and online. The modules focus on three main areas:

  • Essential Computer Skills - Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows OS, Mac OS
  • Essential Software Skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs
  • Using Technology in Daily Life - Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Accessing Telehealth Appointments, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, Your Digital Footprint.
